3.A <br />COUNCIL AGENDA MEMO <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MEETING TYPE/DATE:STUDY SESSION 02-14-23 <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT:City Clerk <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM: Presentation from PROTECT, Planning for Resilience of Our Towns, <br />Environment, Climate and Tourism Releasing the Climate Risk Assessment for Prescott. <br /> <br /> <br />ITEM SUMMARY <br />Council will receive a presentation from PROTECT, Planning for Resilience of Our Towns, <br />Environment, Climate and Tourism Releasing the Climate Risk Assessment for Prescott conducted with <br />the Climate Assessment for the Southwest (CLIMAS) and Dr. Alison Meadow with the University of <br />Arizona. <br /> <br />The group has provided the following statement: <br />"We are pleased to submit the following two documents to Prescott City Council for review and <br />discussion at the February 14, 2023 Study Session: 1) Quad Cities Climate Profile and; 2) Local <br />Climate Action Options. Without your unanimous support on May 24 of last year, the Profile, <br />prepared by CLIMAS at no cost to the City or region, would not have been possible! We hope the <br />Quad Cities Climate Profile and the companion document, Local Climate Action Options, will serve <br />as a springboard for future action on climate resiliency and sustainability in our region." <br />- The PROTECT Campaign Steering Committee <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the May 24, 2022 Voting Meeting, City Council approved the processing of a Climate Risk <br />Assessment for Prescott to be conducted by CLIMAS. Since that time PROTECT has been working <br />with CLIMAS to accomplish the assessment. Mayor Pro Tem Montoya and Councilmember Rusing <br />were contacted by the group regarding completion of the study and have requested a presentation at this <br />Study Session. <br /> <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />None. <br />3
