(4140 <br /> U <br /> Item Summary <br /> The Field and Facilities Services Department is requesting authorization to purchase a new <br /> Tymco 500x high-dump regenerative-air street sweeper to replace a 2003 Broom Bear <br /> street sweeper that has met the City's criteria for replacement. <br /> Background <br /> The Street Maintenance Division of the Field and Facilities Services Department, working in <br /> conjunction with the Fleet Services Division, replaces aging vehicles used in street <br /> maintenance operations which are at or are approaching 100,000 miles, have reached the <br /> end of their useful lives, and are becoming mechanically unreliable. <br /> The Street Maintenance Division utilizes two types of sweepers for cleaning streets within <br /> the City of Prescott: broom sweepers and regenerative-air sweepers. Using both types of <br /> sweepers enables effective removal of different types of debris. Replacement of the current <br /> broom sweeper with a regenerative-air sweeper will result in the Street Maintenance <br /> Division having one broom sweeper and one regenerative air sweeper. An additional <br /> regenerative air sweeper, shared with the Airport, is also in use. Additionally, the proposed <br /> sweeper is a high-dump sweeper so it can be emptied into roll-off boxes at various locations <br /> throughout the City. The Tymco 500x is quieter than the broom bear, with a decibel reading <br /> of 77.9 dB at 50 feet, similar to quiet conversation or a telephone dial tone. <br /> ... While regenerative-air sweepers are more expensive initially, their expected average <br /> service life range is significantly longer than mechanical sweepers due primarily to fewer <br />
