=1.1 le
COUNCIL AGENDA MEMO - July 10, 2012
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
AGENDA ITEM: Approval to perform night work on Prescott Lakes Parkway between
State Route 69 and State Route 89 associated with the FY 2013 Chip Seal, Pavement
Preservation and Various Pavement Repairs Project.
Approved By: Date:
Department Head: Mark Nietupski, Public Works Director 6/28/2012
Finance Director: Mark Woodfill
City Manager: Craig McConnell ifattufiduAA
7 2'/2
Item Summary
Approval of this item will authorize the performance of night work for the application of a
pavement preservation product associated with the FY 2013 Chip Seal, Pavement
Preservation and Various Pavement Repairs Project on a portion of Prescott Lakes
Parkway between State Route 89 and State Route 69.
Background
Construction plans are complete for the FY 2013 Chip Seal, Pavement Preservation
and Various Pavement Repairs Project and bid advertising is currently underway.
Along with chip sealing various streets citywide, the project includes the application of a
pavement preservation product known as Polymer Asphalt Surface Sealer (PASS QB)
on Prescott Lakes Parkway from State Route 89 to State Route 69. The product is
formulated to restore oxidized and brittle pavement surfaces that are in otherwise
serviceable condition. Application of the PASS QB is expected to extend the service life
of the pavement by three to five years. The product generally requires about two hours
of cure time before the treated surface can be reopened to traffic. In the area of the
Wal-Mart Center and Auto Dealerships, that would require closing major driveway
entrances during business hours. The performance of night work on this segment of
Prescott Lakes Parkway will minimize the project impact on businesses and traffic.
City Code Title 5-4-2: Specific Acts Prohibited requires City Council approval for any
night work after 8:00 PM.
Pending award of a contract the project will commence in August, 2012.
Attachment - Location Map
Recommended Action: MOVE to approve night work on Prescott Lakes Parkway
between State Route 69 and State Route 89 for work associated with the FY 2013 Chip
Seal, Pavement Preservation and Various Pavement Repairs Project.
1
