Zo-/ <br /> U <br /> Item Summary <br /> This item is for approval to submit a grant application to the Federal Aviation <br /> Administration (FAA) for the construction phase of improvements, currently under design, <br /> including relocation of the airfield electrical vault, upgrading of the emergency generator, <br /> and installation of lighting for Taxiway E and replacement of the segmented circle (a <br /> visual indicator system for pilots to provide air traffic pattern information). <br /> Background <br /> This project has been identified by the FAA and ADOT as high-priority airfield safety <br /> improvements. Most of the current airfield electrical vault equipment, including the <br /> emergency generator, has exceeded its useful life and become obsolete or difficult to <br /> maintain. The location of the vault also conflicts with future growth of tenant facilities. A <br /> secondary vault was installed at the location of the new primary electrical vault <br /> approximately six years ago to house the additional electrical infrastructure required to <br /> support improvements; however, funds were not available to relocate the primary vault at <br /> that time. <br /> Edge lighting does not exist on Taxiway E, as required by the FAA. The grant will include <br /> this new lighting, and the infrastructure in the new vault to support it. Finally, during the <br /> airports annual FAA Certification Inspection, the segmented circle was found not in <br />
