Prescott City Council Combined Study Session/ <br />Regular Voting Meeting — October 14, 2008 Page 9 <br />Chief Oaks said that there are currently three different manufacturers of <br />Police Department models with ABS and they are Honda, Harley- <br />Davidson and BMW. The Harley-Davidson cost more initially and the <br />Honda and BMW are very comparable. He said that he just returned from <br />a product show in Las Vegas where the City won Best of Show, for being <br />the best equipped. He said that talked with a lot of vendors and officers at <br />that show about motorcycles and was convinced that maintenance on a <br />Honda is about 50% of maintenance on a BMW. <br />Councilwoman Suttles asked what would happen with the Kawasaki <br />cycles being replaced. Chief Oaks said that they would be sold at auction. <br />He said that it is a very limited market, but they are inexpensive cruising <br />bikes for those interested. <br />Councilman Bell asked how long it would take for delivery. Chief Oaks <br />said that the dealer in Ontario said they would arrive in January, and then <br />there is time to have the additional equipment installed, so they should be <br />ready in early Spring. <br />Councilman Luzius said that they have discussed before the need to buy <br />American. He said that he has done some homework and Harley- <br />Davidson has several police models that offer ABS brakes. With the <br />economic downturn, he thinks it is important to buy American, since they <br />have a government that does not have much regard for the borders. He <br />would like to have that considered in the future. <br />Mayor Wilson said that he owned two Harleys when he was younger, but <br />he supports the recommendation of the Chief <br />COUNCILWOMAN SUTTLES MOVED TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE <br />OF TWO 2009 HONDA ST1300P A9 MOTORCYCLES WITH <br />EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT FROM NORTH VALLEY MOTORSPORTS, <br />INC., ON THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY STATE <br />CONTRACT #L5-024-002 FOR THE AMOUNT OF $40,723.90; <br />SECONDED BY COUNCILWOMAN LOPAS; PASSED 5-1 WITH <br />COUNCILMAN LUZIUS CASTING THE DISSSENTING VOTE. <br />Adoption of Resolution No. 3908-0914 — A resolution of the Mayor and <br />Council of the City of Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona, accepting the <br />Special Land Use Permit No. 23-110915-03 provided by the State of <br />Arizona, State Land Department, for the special use of Glassford Hill for <br />public safety communication operations for a five-year period and <br />authorizing the execution of any and all documents to implement same. <br />Emergency Services Director Darrell Willis said that this item is to extend <br />the lease of property where the communications tower is located on <br />
